Dahlonega Healing Herds Sanctuary was founded in the winter of 2021 by Jim and Aimee Guidetti. Donkeys have always held a special place in their hearts and they always dreamed of one day opening a sanctuary specifically designed to rescue abused and neglected donkeys. Educating and involving the community in this project has been very inspiring and to date, they have rescued and rehabilitated over 16 donkeys. All of which are thriving, healthy and happy. There are very few sanctuaries or facilities in the United Sates intended just for donkeys, they are truly a misunderstood and overlooked animal. Help us on our mission to save the donkeys one bray at a time.
Our mission is to specialize and to provide a permanent home on our 10 acre facility with food, shelter, veterinarian and farrier care for unwanted and abused donkeys. We strive to provide public education, rehabilitation, training and adoption programs for all current and future donkeys! We also invite the community to educational classes, various therapy programs, and social events with our donkeys.
Nestled in the beautiful North Georgia mountains lies a home where neglected and unwanted donkeys are free to roam in rolling pastures and bask peacefully in the warm sun. A place of love and respect, and where they can heal from their physical and emotional wounds of their past.
DHHS is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization. We have our barn license through the Georgia department of Agriculture. We rely on the support of generous donors to provide care for all our our donkeys by visiting our sanctuary.
Our dream at DHHS includes building a 20 stall stable on our 10 acre facility to start saving and rehabilitating donkeys straight from the auctions and kill pens and begin our adoption program. With your help in spreading awareness and donating, we can save these precious animals one bray at a time.
Donkeys are a gentle and super intelligent animal that have captured the hearts of people for centuries. Here at DHHS you can experience the magic of donkeys first hand.
